Some Banks Levying Service Charges to Deter Customers from Using Particular Services

Some banks are charging their customers for using certain services or for maintaining minimum average balance in their accounts to drive them away, RBI DeputyGovernor SS Mundra said.He also said that bank account number portability should be introduced with the help of Aadhaar and NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) platforms.

Criticizing the practices of some banks, Mundra said that the fact they are given liberty on setting the minimum balance for their customer should not mean that they use it for driving away some customers.  He also said that RBI is going to provide the minimum narration for pass books that’s easier for the customers to understand.
