Telegram sees surge in users on it platform

Messaging application Telegram has seen a flood in new clients joining the platform, the organization has said.

Telegram crossed 500 million month to month active clients in the first week of January. The platform had 25 million new clients joining Telegram over the most recent 72 hours alone, Telegram’s CEO and Founder Pavel Durov said in a blog entry presented on his Telegram channel on Tuesday.

Of this, 38 percent clients were from Asia, 27 percent from Europe, 21 percent from Latin America and 8 percent from MENA (the Middle East and North Africa).

In the midst of rising concerns in regards to WhatsApp’s new security strategy and its sharing of certain client information with Facebook, applications, for example, Telegram and Signal saw a critical flood in new downloads.

In a new blog entry, Durov stated, “This is a critical increment contrasted with a year ago, when 1.5M new clients joined each day. We’ve had floods of downloads previously, all through our 7-year history of ensuring client security. In any case, this time is extraordinary.”
