The Reason Why GST Deadline for Filing Returns Was Extended

The Goods and Services Tax Council had made several changes in the GST regime at its 15th meeting on June 3, some of which were linked to the GST return filing form. As a result, the deadline for filing of returns was extended for the first two months with the council citing lack of preparation on the part of ERP providers for the same. However, key players in the industry, as well as GSPs say that this lack of preparation was mainly the council’s fault as the changes it had made in the return forms made it difficult for them to be incorporated in the GSTN network within the timeframe.
