Upgrade ATMs or Face Action: RBI to Banks

Realizing that the banks are not taking security concerns seriously, the Reserve Bank of India has given then strict timelines as per which they are required to upgrade their ATMs lest they should invite appropriate action from the central bank.

The banks are asked to implement a variety of security measures by August. They are also required to upgrade their ATMs with newer Operating Systems (OS) in multiple phases by June next year.

In 2017, the RBI raised the issue of the banks running ATMs with unsupported and/or outdated OS such as Windows XP. They were asked to address these problems but due to their lack of response, the central bank has now issued strict timelines.
