West Bengal’s Debt Reaches New Heights

In the past 5 years, the total debt of West Bengal has shot up by Rs. 1.16 lakh crores. Out of this, Rs. 26,000 crores were raised by the state government in the current year alone, central bank’s records show.

West Bengal raised the second-highest amount of debt this year, as Maharashtra takes the first place with a debt of Rs. 35,000.

Not Only West Bengal has put itself under a high burden of high debt, its repayment schedule doesn’t look any good either as the Rs. 3,200 crore of debt from FY17 would grow threefold to Rs, 11,610 crores in FY18.
