WFH’s formalization to help women from small cities

Government of India’s move to formalize work from home for the service sector is likely to help create more job openings for women, especially in rural areas and towns, in the next few months.

With Labour ministry’s draft model standing orders for the service sector proposing to authorize companies to allow employees to remote work permanently, many IT firms are expected to hire women, particularly in rural areas and towns.

Vishal Grover, practice leader, retirement and benefits, HR consulting firm Aon India said, “The key drive for employment in rural areas and towns could be women on career breaks and retired employees who want to join again on part-time basis”.

Already organizations like Tech Mahindra, Capgemini have started hiring in the rural areas and towns. According to a survey, more than 50% of women in rural India may have lost jobs during the lockdown. However, many of them are back in employment.

Capgemini is hiring women from rural India to work from home in its cloud and infrastructure services (CIS) team through ‘Sakhi Drishtikon’ initiative.
