WhatsApp May Incorporate Payment System, In Talks with NPCI, SBI

Popular messaging app WhatsApp is in talks with public lender SBI, NPCI, and other financial institutions to introduce a payment system with which its users can send and receive funds through United Payments Interface. This interface that’s already being used by several banks allows users to transfer funds instantly.

WhatsApp is not the only one to come up with the idea of incorporating an instant payment system in a messaging app. Truecaller was one of the first to offer UPI-based payments through its platform by joining hands with the ICICI Bank. Similarly, Hike Messenger has partnered with Yes Bank to offer the same facility.
