Women Entrepreneurs Important for India’s Growth: NITI Aayog
July 24, 2018
NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said that for India to grow at 9% to 10% during the next 30 years, it needs to promote the spirit of entrepreneurship among the women. He pointed out the example of Haryana, which could not grow as expected because Khap Panchayats are not providing enough opportunities for the women in areas like education, health, and nutrition.
Kant said that the global average of women’s contribution in GDP is 44-45%. However, in India, it’s just 22%. Thus, focus on women’s entrepreneurship needs to be one of the key aspects of India’s growth strategy, he said.
