Transitioning from College Student to Working Professional

Nothing is more exciting than graduating from college and starting a new phase of life as a self-dependent working professional. However, this transition isn’t smooth for everyone. After all, there are a number of changes to get used to including daily routine, social life, etc.

The following are some of the things you must bear in mind as you embark on your new journey:

Online Presence

Today’s companies are quite cautious about the talent they hire. In fact, we live in a time where employees can be fired because of their insensitive posts/comments on social media platforms. The recent case of Kotak Mahindra Bank’s employee is a good example of this. Thus, when you become a professional, you must understand that your social media activities have an impact on the company you are working with and can have consequences.

Changed Routine

You might be used to staying up late to hang out with friends, but when you join a firm as an employee, then you must expect a drastic change in your routine. This is because you will need to get up early and for that, you need to sleep early too. This is to ensure that you are not dreary and weary in the morning and have to compromise with your performance.

Dress Not for…

You might miss the laid-down casualness you enjoyed in college, but in the corporate life, your habits and even the way you dress can make a huge difference in your career. Remember- “dress not for the job you have, but the one you want”

Personal Finance

Most of the entry-level jobs don’t pay a lot. So, you may get a decent salary but if you are not careful enough, you might end up with a cash crunch. To avoid this problem, it’s important that you set a monthly budget and keep a track of your major expenses. You can also use a personal finance app to make it easier.
