Yeh Safar hai filmy duniya ka! Our PG IMAC student, AvniSavla tells us about her ‘starry eyed dreams.’
I was sitting on my couch and listening to music when this one song just came up on my shuffle playlist
Aaj kal zindagi
Mujhse hai keh rahi
Tu jo meri maane toh chal deewane
Sapnon ki rahoon mein tu
Saari khusboon ko
Saari roshni ko le le in bahoon mein tu
After listening to this song my mind started thinking… What now? Where I am heading to? What I am going to do? What work field do you want to choose? These questions were running through my mind. My inner soul the (mini me), who was my perfect reflector, popped up like a popcorn in my head and said “Dude wake up!! It’s time to think.”After a while, I jotted down my strengths and weakness on a piece of paper. I kept rambling for several pages, I realized that why should I not opt for something I really love doing and build my career path on those lines. I locked my heart and thoughts upon being an Artist Manager.
Like every poker game has one luck by which you win the entire flush or you just pack; same way I had a game player in my list of places I wished to work for.“ZOOT,” this game was the winning shot I was counting on for getting started. The day arrived when I heard from ZOOT and my excitement knew no bounds.
At my first day at work, my mind was a bubbling zone of various thoughts and emotions. Kick starting the day with preparing several lists of lounges, current artists working with the company, and a few more things, I was wondering what will it be like going forward. Days went by and I was loaded with all kinds of work.
I had finally begun being used to multi-tasking and enjoying work at the same time. One random day while I was headed to work, I received a call from the manager of Deep Money and Kanika Kapoor.
Our conversation when like this:
Hello, Is this Avni?
Yes, who is this?
Hi, I am the manager of Kanika Kapoor and Deep Money, and would like to know if you are interested in collaborating with us?
I took a pause (only to enjoy the happy dance in my head) and after a bit replied, “Yes, why not? It would be a great opportunity to work with you.
This is how I hatched the golden egg. Next day I started working with them, got projects with them. I used to go with them for clubbing, live it up to the fullest. I felt it was perfect; this what I always wanted, to enjoy with film-stars and be with them. But this is not how this was going to work forever. Artist management was not only about hatching such eggs and hanging out with the stars, but going down to the smallest detail for your artist. One has to look into several arrangements and even be a supervisor at times. From putting things on excel sheets to the field work; being an artist manager is not a cakewalk. This is the part where the Devils challenged me but I refused to give in.
Despite the several challenges, ZOOT has helped me enhance my communication and people skills. Entering the field of work not only prepares you a step further but helps you gain insight into the industry from an absolutely practical perspective.
My ticket to Filmistaan has made show the good the bad and the ugly only to make me ask myself if this is where I want to be. And I am thankful for this ticket that I have been able to test myself in several situations only to find myself wanting to push forward in this space of work.
Sitaron ki mehfil ki chamak hi kuch aur hoti hai… par khud ke umeed ki chamak sitaron ko bhi roshan kar sakti hai.
