Credit Card Tips for Students Studying Abroad
September 19, 2019
It’s not uncommon for ambitious and meritorious students in India to leave the country for global MBA courses like UK MBA and US MBA. However, when that happens, then money management can become a problem. Since it’s not convenient to use cash all the time, many students take with them the credit cards they use in their home country to the country they are studying at.
The following are some of the best credit card tips for studying abroad:
1. Credit Card Brand
It’s a good idea to bring a credit card that’s accepted in a wide range of locations. For instance, Visa and MasterCard credit cards are widely accepted and you can use them in various geographies and locations like airports, restaurants, grocery stores, etc.
2. Issuer Intimation
If your credit card suddenly shows transactions in a foreign country, then the issuing bank may deactivate the account taking them to be suspicious. So, it’s better to inform the bank before you leave.
3. Foreign Transaction Fees
Most of the standard credit cards levy a foreign transaction fee in a foreign country which can be as high as 3 to 4% of the transaction value. When you process several transactions on a weekly basis, then the fees add up. So, it’s advisable that you look for a credit card that doesn’t levy the fees. There are, in fact, many credit cards that offer “no foreign transaction fees” benefit.
Studying in a foreign country can be difficult. You have to pay a lot of money on accommodation, food, transportation, etc. and living away from the comfort of your home itself can be a challenge. However, did you know that you can avail a global MBA program in Mumbai itself? TSCFM is offering an opportunity for you to receive an MBA degree from a reputed UK university without leaving your home country.
