Aadhaar in Ayushman Bharat Scheme Not Mandatory, Government Clarifies
With the rumours of the government publishing a gazette notification making Aadhaar mandatory for Modicare, this Thursday it cleared up the air and said that that the use of Aadhaar is “desirable” but the beneficiaries don’t necessarily need it to avail the benefits of the national healthcare scheme.

The health ministry said that the Aadhaar card might be used by the authorities to authenticate the beneficiaries. However, the benefits can’t be denied “for want of Aadhaar number”.

The scheme looks to provide insurance cover to over 107 billion financially weak families in India.
