Airtel Payments Bank Drops 1,000 Retailers Off the Network

As many as a thousand retailers have been removed from the Airtel Payments Bank network for failing to follow the sign-up process as required. This was a result of the internal investigations carried out by the cellular network provider regarding the lapses and errors that led to the suspension of its Aadhaar-based KYC license.

In mid-December, the Unique Identification Authority of India had barred Airtel Payments Bank from using the Aadhaar-eKYC based SIM verification process after several complaints were raised by the customers whose accounts were opened without their consent.
