Article 370 Scrapped, Govt Proposes Dividing J&K into Two Union Territories

This Monday, the government dissolved provisions under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution which provided special status to Jammu & Kashmir. Now, plans of splitting Jammu & Kashmir into two Union Territories are being considered.

Narendra Modi-led NDA government is expected to be challenged in the Supreme Court for violating the agreement that was signed between Jammu & Kashmir and the Union of India to enact Article 270.

Mehmooba Mufti, who is the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party said that the government’s decision is “illegal and unconstitutional”.
