Assessees Non-Compliant with Filing of Returns to Receive Notices

Cracking whip on the Goods and Services Tax (GST) assessees who haven’t filed their returns, the government has asked officers to issue notices against them.

The move comes under the increased pressure of tax revenue collection and with the fiscal year coming to an end in a few months. Supporting this is also the fact that in a meeting on December 9, Finance Secretary Hasmukh Adhia had asked the taxmen of both state and union governments to review the tax collection in the five months past the introduction of the GST regime so that they can compare the same with the pre-GST regime.
