Back-End IT Services Likely to Attract 18% GST

The majority of back-end services in the IT and ITeS sector, especially in the business outsourcing domain are likely to attract 18% GST since they don’t qualify as exports, the government said. This will have a huge impact on the service providers in after-sales support and back-end services.

The new order released by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) looks to reduce litigation and disputes related to export-related refunds. At present, exports attract zero GST rate and also have a provision for refunds.
