Banks’ NPA Increasing Consistently for 8 Years: Shiv Pratap Shukla

In multiple replies recently written to Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Finance Shiv Pratap Shukla said that the non-performing assets (NPAs) in the banks are growing on a consistent basis for over past 8 years. He also said that by the end of the calendar year 2017 they had increased to Rs. 7.77 lakh crores for the public sector banks (PSBs) alone.
Shukla said that under the “industry-large” category the gross NPAs for all the banks increased from Rs. 1.23 lakhs in March 2015 to Rs. 5.27 lakhs in December 2017 and the overall NPAs for PSBs had grown to Rs. 7.77 lakh crores by December-end of 2017.
