Budget for UDAN Scheme to be Raised by Modi Govt for Next Decade

Re-elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the government will look into increasing the budget for the UDAN scheme for the next 10 years which will provide affordable air travel to the common man through concessions, waiving off airport charges, etc.

A total subsidy of ₹1,800-2,000 crores will be required per year for the 688 routes that have been awarded become operational, a team of Airports Authority of India (AAI) that’s implementing the scheme said. In the first round of the bidding i.e. in March 2017, the government had awarded 128 routes to 5 airlines for 43 destinations.
