Facebook, Google May Soon Need to Start Paying Creators
The European Union (EU)’s copyright laws were revised recently to ensure that that content creators get fair remuneration for their work. As a result, popular platforms like Google and Facebook will soon be required to compensate the content creators whose materials are published on their websites.

The new proposal needs to be approved by the European Parliament and the bloc’s member states before the changes can be implemented. Once that’s being taken care of, Google and other platforms will be required to sign licensing agreements with news outlets, authors, etc. to publish their content on their websites. They will also have to share the revenue with them.
