Gita Gopinath Appointed as IMF Chief Economist
Indian-origin Gita Gopinath has been appointed as the next Chief Economist of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). She will succeed Maurice (Maury) Obstfeld, who announced that he would be retiring by the end of the year. 

Gopinath is a US citizen and an Overseas Citizen of India. She is currently the Zwaanstra Professor of International Studies and Economics at Harvard University. However, she completed her bachelor’s and master’s level education in economics in India.
