Govt’s New Traffic Fines Slashed by 90% in Gujarat

It’s not been long since the government amended the Motor Vehicles Act. However, the Gujarat government has already slashed the fines by 25% to 90%. It said that the move was taken on “compassionate and humanitarian” grounds. Experts believe that other states may also make changes in the fines for traffic violations after observing Gujarat’s decision.

Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani said that it’s not a priority for the government to collect fines or file cases against the people even though law can’t be enforced unless provision for punishment is there. He said that the state government has decided to lower fines for the people.
