Govt’s Reskilling Initiative to Push 12 Million Families Out of Poverty

Although the government doesn’t plan to abolish the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), it’s working on an initiative that can push up to 12.5 million families that are covered by the Act out of poverty. It looks to accomplish the same by creating durable assets and imparting skills.

Around 50-55 million families seek jobs for more than 3 months in a year under MGNREGA which is a social security scheme that provides employment to rural labourers in the country. The Act guarantees employment to every adult citizen that comes under its ambit. If someone doesn’t get employment, then they qualify for an unemployment allowance.
