Increased Cess on Luxury Cars: Auto Makers Rebuke Government

In light of the recent hiking of the luxury cars’ cess to 25%, auto manufacturers have lashed out at the government, saying that it’s detrimental towards the liberal markets and may impact the “Make in India” movement as well.

Top players including BMW, Audi, Toyota Motor, etc. have a unanimous opinion that the increase in the cess on large and luxury cars will hurt the spirits of the entire industry and bring down the morale of all the entities in the supply chain.

Rahil Ansari, who is the head of Audi automobiles in India, said that the taxes are high already and car manufacturers were actually expecting a relief under the GST regime.
