India’s Banking Sector to go Downhill: Fitch Rating Raises Concerns

Fitch Rating said that India’s capital position and financial performance are looking bleak. It said that banks are suffering from poor capitalization and without the capital support they need from the government and capital markets, the situation only seems to become worse over time.

Fitch said that while some state-run banks are planning to raise funds this fiscal year for support, it won’t be easy because of poor earnings prospects and lack of investor confidence. On the other hand, private banks are performing well and are in a good state although they were under pressure due to asset quality deterioration recently.
