ITR for FY19 Extended to August 31
July 25, 2019
The deadline for filing income tax return (ITR) for the financial year 2018-19 has been extended by the finance ministry to August 31 from current July 31. This is mainly because of the fact that a number of tax practitioners and chartered accountants around the country requested the government to extend the deadline for tax filing due to insufficient time for the same. Many employees also said that they are awaiting their Form 16s which are required for ITR filing.
Late filers of ITR are fined ₹5,000 by the government if they file by December 31, and ₹10,000 if they file between January 1 and March 31. However, now that the deadline has been extended, most tax filers will be saved from the penalty.
