Maharashtra Government Finds 20 Lakh Wrong UID Numbers of Farmers

As the state government of Maharashtra was proceeding with its farm loan waiver scheme, it found that out of 25.57 lakh farmers that applied for the loan waiver about 20 lakh were given wrong Aadhaar numbers.

A senior government official said that the banks had fed wrong Aadhaar numbers of about 19.85 lakh farmers in their records, that were either invalid or simply junk. This discrepancy came to light after checking with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), i.e. the Aadhaar-issuing body.

Further delay in the execution of farm loans waiver scheme is expected.
