Merger of Banks May Reduce Need for Government Capital, Says SBI Head Arundhati Bhattacharya

Seeking even further consolidation of the Public Sector Banks, State Bank of India chairperson Arundhati Bhattacharya said that the mergers can help limit the PSBs dependence on the government capital. This comes in after SBI’s merger with five of its associate banks and the Bhartiya Mahila Bank that took place a few months ago.

Bhattacharya said that the merger of the Public Sector Banks can help open new capital generation pathways for the consolidated entity. She added that the same will help the government to enjoy increased dividends and reduced financial interventions.
