No Data on Black Money after Demonetization, RBI Responds to RTI Query

In response to a recent RTI query, the Reserve Bank of India said that it has processed 4,709.72 million demonetized notes of Rs. 1,000 denomination, and 9,711.62 million demonetized notes of Rs. 500 denomination.  However, it said that it doesn’t have any data on fake currency notes and that the “processing of notes is in progress”. The central bank also claimed that it doesn’t have any information on the recovery of black money.

On printing defects of the new currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 denomination, the RBI refused to share any details, citing “economic interest” of the country.
