Aadhaar, Bank Account Linking Mandatory: RBI

Putting an end to the speculation as to whether it’s actually mandatory for all bank account holders to link their Aadhaar numbers with the accounts, the Reserve Bank of India(RBI) said that’s it’s mandatory under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
Clearing the air once and for all, the central bank recently issued a statement that said that the linkage is mandatory under the “Prevention of Money-laundering (Maintenance of Records) Second Amendment Rules, 2017 published in the Official Gazette on June 1, 2017.”
However, RBI also agreed that it didn’t actually send any notification to any bank regarding the same as direct intimation.
