One-Time Incentive Proposed by Auto Industry for Replacing Old Vehicles
The auto industry has proposed a one-time incentive for the owners of pre-2000 registered vehicles in the form of tax rebates so that the old vehicles can be taken off-road quickly. It also held a meeting with the heavy industries ministries recently in which it asked the government to remove multiple tax rates for passenger vehicles and proposed a separate rate for electric vehicles.

The auto companies emphasized that the government should work towards replacing old vehicles as they contribute to pollution and also raise safety issues. They said that the government can incentivize the owners of these outdated vehicles by offering rebates such as road tax, GST, etc.
