Owners Shut-Down Hotels and Restaurants in Telangana to Protest High GST Tax

About 90% of the 40,000 restaurants and hotels in Telangana have been shut down to protest high tax rate under the GST regime. The demand for a 5% reduction has been sought by the industry players.

S Venkata Reddy, president of Telangana Hotels Association, said that the members have already met E Rajender with their demand, who is not only the State Finance Minister but also a GST Council member.

The GST Council has decided to set a 28% tax for star category hotels and 18% for AC hotels, a move which has received flak from the majority of the industry.
