Paris Agreement: India Set to Meet 2 of 3 Goals
November 13, 2018
The Indian government is looking to inform the UN that it’s on the path to achieving two of its commitments under the Paris Agreement that has a deadline of 2030. This will be officially conveyed through the Second Biennial Update Report which will be submitted to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. It will contain India’s up to date emission data and the threats from climate change that the nation is facing today.
India set 3 targets under the Paris Agreement which it promised to achieve by 2030:
- To reduce greenhouse gas emission by 33-35% below 2005 levels
- To generate 40% of power with non-fossil fuel sources
- To create an additional carbon sink up of 2.5-3 billion tonnes of CO2
India is on way to achieve the first two targets. However, it still has a long way to go to achieve the last one.
