Piyush Goyal Rules Out Privatization of Railways

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had earlier said in her Budget speech that the Center may bring in private investors for rolling stock manufacturing and railway tracks. However, Minister of Railways and Commerce Piyush Goyal recently ruled that out by saying that the government doesn’t want privatization of Indian Railways although it may consider private investments for the establishment of high-speed lines.

Goyal said that the government wants to make the rail coach plant in Raebareli the largest in the world. He also said that Indian Railways should invite investments for the setting up of semi-high-speed, and high-speed lines.
