PM Modi Wants Officials to Work on Cheaper Batteries to Promote EVs in India
September 28, 2018
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently held a review meeting during which he asked questions about the current status of electric mobility industry in the country. He was primarily interested in knowing the main reasons behind the lack of traction of electric vehicles (EVs) in India, sources said.
The officials said that EVs are expensive because of the high cost of batteries.
Due to uncertainty, the second phase of FAME i.e. Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric (FAME) vehicles framework hasn’t been disclosed fully yet. However, Modi announced that he will set up a stable policy for EVs and other alternative vehicles.
