RBI May Issue Rs. 200 Notes This Year
July 31, 2017
Although the new currency has reached 84% of the level before demonetization, CIC (Currency in Circulation) has declined sharply ever since.
According to the State Bank of India Ecowrap report, cash in hand with banks is usually about 3.8% of the CIC but is now standing at 5.4%. So, it suggests that about 1.6% or Rs. 25,000 crore of excess currency is still lying within ATM machines across the country. The Reserve Bank of India, is thus expected to release currency notes of Rs. 200 denomination this year to “fill” the gap.
