RBI Wants Mobile Apps for Visually-Challenged, Seeks Help from Tech Firms

The Reserve Bank of India wants to offer mobile applications for visually-challenged individuals in the country so that they can identify currency notes with ease. It said that those who are visually handicapped may find it hard to identify the currency notes in the country that are available in denominations ₹2000, 500, 200, 100, 50, 20, and 10.

At present, visually-challenged people use Intaglio printing based identification marks to identify the currency notes of ₹100 and above. However, the central bank is in search of a technology firm that can build a mobile app that can make identification simpler and easier.
