Retail stores double up as fulfillment stores

As the pandemic speeds up the online shopping habit, retail shops on high streets and in department stores are doubling up as e-trade fulfillment centers.

With footfalls nonetheless low, retail shops are an increasing number of working as ‘micro-fulfillment’ centers servicing click on-and-accumulate style purchases and also performing as a hub for online orders.

Avenue Supermarts, which owns and operates supermarket chain DMart, for example, has closed two of its retail shops in Mumbai and converted them into fulfillment centers. “Both these places have a change DMart shop inside 4 kilometers,” the agency stated pronouncing its income.
