Rural Consumers Facing Higher Inflation than Urban Counterparts
October 03, 2017
Although the overall inflation in India has come down to a great extent in the past 3 years, the rural population is observing higher inflation than the urban population. This has been established with the help of the Consumer Price Index (CPI)-based inflation data for the last 3 years.
For instance, the point-to-point inflation for the overall rise in the CPI is 10.7% for the urban India but 14.3% for the rural India. What’s more- products like pulses stand at just 7.2% for the urban population but at a whopping 20.4% for the rural population.
The huge gap in the urban and rural inflation, however, can be attributed to the back-to-back monsoon seasons that may have led to a shift in the demand.
