Rural WhatsApp Users Don’t Trust Messages, Says Survey

According to a survey by Statista that was published in October 2018, the majority of WhatsApp users based in rural India don’t trust the messages that are shared on the platform. Only 8.6% of the respondents said that they believe the messages they receive on WhatsApp.

The survey is based on WhatsApp users who live in Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh, Musiri in Tamil Nadu, Alwar and Barmer in Rajasthan, and others. It shared many details including 40% of the respondents saying that they were part of WhatsApp groups that were set up political leaders, and 88% of them saying that can identify a forwarded message and receive up to 20 messages per day on average.
