Spice Money Revolutionizes Rural Banking: Extends ATM Access to 25 Lakh Points Across India

Dilip Modi, founder of Spice Money, a rural fintech company, proudly announced a major milestone in the journey to enhance financial inclusion in rural India. Modi highlighted the success of the Spice Money Adhikari App in extending digital financial services, including cash deposits, Aadhaar-enabled withdrawals, mini ATM services, bill payments, recharge options, money transfers, loans, tours and travel, and more.

One of the significant achievements Modi shared is the expansion of ATM access to 25 lakh points across India through the India Stack. This accomplishment addresses a crucial challenge faced by rural and semi-urban residents who often lack formal banking access.

In the context of India’s financial landscape, where a substantial part of the sector operates informally, Spice Money plays a pivotal role. The government’s efforts in promoting universal bank account ownership have been complemented by Spice Money’s innovative approach.

Over the past four years, Spice Money successfully onboarded 1.3 million merchants, known as Spice Money Adhikaris, creating local banking points within communities. This unique merchant onboarding strategy bridges the gap between consumers and banking services, offering a practical alternative to distant bank branches.

Spice Money’s positive unit economics has contributed to an increased consumer base for banks. Despite the challenges of rural India, the company’s phygital (physical + digital) model has proven effective. Local partners, along with physical and digital platforms, work cohesively to provide a comprehensive approach to serving consumers. Regional sales and distribution teams collaborate seamlessly, addressing the diverse needs of each locality.

Dilip Modi emphasized, “One of the biggest problems we have solved is extending ATM access, ensuring that even in areas with savings and current accounts, consumers now have the means to transact.” Spice Money continues to play a transformative role in enhancing formal credit penetration and financial services in rural areas.
