Twitter acquires news start-up Scroll

Twitter Inc said Tuesday it had acquired news technology organization Scroll, which it will use as a component of an upcoming subscription offering.

Twitter has been attempting to bring to the offer new kinds of content on its online media website, including audio and long-form content, after previously acquiring newsletter platform Revue.

Scroll permits clients to buy in and read news stories from distributers including Insider, BuzzFeed and USA Today without promotions. The organization says distributers who work with Scroll bring in more cash than they would by selling advertising.

The deal will help Twitter build a membership feature, for example, allowing clients to get to premium features from news outlets or a writers Revue newsletter, Twitter added.
