Urjit Patel’s Resignation Hints Protest, Says Raghuram Rajan
December 12, 2018
Former Governor of Reserve Bank of India Raghuram Rajan, who was interviewed recently after the current Governor Urjit Patel announced his retirement said that his quitting is a “matter of grave concern”. He said we need to ask ourselves what led to this turn of events and the government also needs to think over how it wants to maintain its relationship with the central bank.
Rajan also raised concerns over the government’s efforts towards turning the RBI’s advisory board into an operational board as that would affect the central bank’s capacity on regulatory and supervisory grounds.
