WhatsApp Data Practices Reviewed as it Prepares for Payments Debut

As messenger app WhatsApp is preparing to launch a payments service in India, the Center is reviewing an audit report on its data practices to ensure compliance with the laws and regulations of the country.

A representative from National Payments Corporation of India said that the body has received a compliance report from the Facebook-owned company and it will review it in the next few weeks.

Once WhatsApp gets a nod from the government for its payments service, it will compete with other leaders like Amazon and Google in the Indian digital payments market that’s projected to hit 1 trillion USD by 2023.
