WhatsApp Looks to Launch Payments Services in India This Year

Will Cathcart who is the Global Head of WhatsApp said that the top messaging app looks to roll out a payments service for Indian users later this year. He said that the company wants to make sending money on the platform as easy as sending a message.

WhatsApp, which has around 1.5 billion users around the world and 400 million in India alone has been wanting to launch a dedicated payments service in India for quite some time now. However, the government threw a spanner in its works by raising issues for its data storage practices and authentication features.
