Ex-RBI Heads Against Farm Debt Waivers

At a recent discussion on policy, two of the former RBI chiefs Y V Reddy and C Rangarajan said they didn’t favor the debt waivers of the farm loans.

While the former said that the decision won’t help the economy, the latter seconded that and said that it would have been better to just give the farmers additional time for the repayment.

Reddy said that while farm loan waivers are politically-motivated, they can’t be justified in the longer run.
