FM Sitharaman Defends Tax Hike, Says Move Aimed at Helping Poor

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the recent increase in the tax rates on the super-rich in the country is aimed at helping the poor. She was present a conference in Chennai recently when she said that is no more than 5,000 super-rich in India and that tax hike is not a robbery but a way to help everyone grow together.

Sitharaman had proposed to increase the surcharge on individuals earning an income of ₹2 crores to ₹5 crores, and ₹5 crores and above during her Union Budget announcement.
