India Short of Over Half a Million Doctors, Two Million Nurses

According to a new report by the Center for Disease Dynamics, Economics & Policy (CDDEP) in the US, India is short of around 600,000 doctors and 2 million nurses. It said that due to insufficient government spending on healthcare, India’s population suffers from high out-of-pocket medical costs and isn’t able to afford life-saving drugs.

The report said that as many as 57 million Indians are pushed into poverty every year as they have to pay 65% of their medical expenses out of their own pockets.
