IRDAI may Bring Wearable Gadgets Under Insurance Cover

India’s insurance regulation authority IRDAI has set up a group to provide inputs on how the wearable gadgets can be brought under the insurance policy framework in a way that’s beneficial to the policyholders.
The authority’s move comes at a time when wearable gadgets, especially for the monitoring of physical activities and overall health are becoming popular among fitness enthusiasts.
The appointed 10-member working group will analyse how the portable and wearable devices can be treated from the point of view of risk assessment and incorporated into the insurance policies.
