What Qualification is Required for Career in Banking?

Banking is one of the most popular sectors for Indian youngsters who want to build rewarding careers. This is because the banking sector offers good remuneration, ample growth opportunities, and financial perks viz. lower interest rates on loans and credit cards.
If you are interested in starting a career in the banking sector yourself, then you can apply for the following positions after graduation:

Clerical:
Clerical posts include data entry operators, stenographers, clerk-cum-cashiers, telephone operators, etc.

Probationary Offices (PO):
For these positions, the selected candidates are put under probation and then hired for managerial positions after the probation period is over.
To qualify for clerical jobs, you must be a graduate with 60% or higher total aggregate. Your age should be below 28 years, although you may get relaxation if you belong to a reserved category (OBC/SC/ST). The average salary you can expect in the public sector is ₹1,50,000 per annum.
To appear for PO jobs, you must have a bachelor’s degree with at least 55% aggregate. Your age should be below 30 years and you are expected to be tech-savvy and have good communication skills.
In most of the public sector banking jobs, you have to clear IBPS exams and then face interviews before selection. You can also get a job in the central bank i.e. RBI itself. It conducts exams for RBI Grade B officers from time to time.
